FCBarcelona received a sanction from the Spanish Football Federation following a complaint filed by AtléticoMadrid regarding Argentine striker JuliánÁlvarez. According to ActuFoot, the Catalan club was ordered to pay a fine of €602, a symbolic amount but which confirms the regulatory decision in favor of Atlético.
This affair is not the first time that the two clubs have found themselves in conflict over the origin of a player. In 2019, Barça had already been fined €300 after a complaint from Atlético for alleged contact with French striker Antoine Griezmann, then still under contract. Seven years later, the same pattern repeats itself with JuliánÁlvarez, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two managements when a key Atlético player is targeted by Barça.
The fine does not affect the contractual situation of the Argentine striker, but it shows that Atlético has chosen not to let anything pass in the face of the Catalan club's supposed steps. The verdict, although financially negligible for Barça, has symbolic importance: it confirms that the Federation took into account the complaint and sanctioned the club for having approached a player still linked to another club.
For Atlético, this decision is a regulatory victory. The Madrid club thus won its case, strengthening its position in this issue which continues to fuel tensions between the two teams. Barça will now have to face the sanction, even if it does not call into question the club's recruitment strategy.
In the future, the JuliánÁlvarez case remains open. Both clubs will have to remain vigilant regarding transfer rules and contacts with players under contract. Atlético has shown that it will not hesitate to resort to disciplinary authorities to defend its interests, while Barça will have to adjust its approaches to avoid future sanctions.
