Inter coach Massimiliano Allegri ended the controversy that arose after the Napoli-Roma 3-3 match by speaking in a press conference the evening before the match against Monza. On that occasion Allegri clarified that the sentences attributed to him may have been misunderstood and asked to put an end to the discussion.
Allegri explained that he had not heard the words attributed to him and underlined that it is not possible to change the result or any disqualification. He then reiterated that the priority is the ranking: "We are behind and we must work to improve our position." The coach cited the need to correct game situations in which Inter failed, and referred to the recovery of players who have been injured or inactive for two months, such as McTominay, Anguissa, Alisson, Neres and Badiashile.
In response, Gasperini, Cagliari's coach, stated that he had not heard the phrase in question and had not read any comments in favor of his interpretation. He reiterated that the data and statistics from last year's games, as well as those of other teams, prove his position. Gasperini closed his interview by stating that there is no need to add further clarifications.
Allegri's intervention occurred at a crucial moment for Inter, who find themselves in a position in the standings that requires an intense phase of work and physical recovery. The club needs to consolidate the form of key players and return to competing consistently.
With Monza in sight, Inter will have to focus on the result, trying to close the gap with their rivals and recover precious points. The next round of Serie A represents an important opportunity to put Allegri's indications into practice and to demonstrate the desire to improve the overall performance of the team.
