Andriy Lunin, Real Madrid's goalkeeper, reiterated the need to continue progressing after the 3-0 victory over Barcelona, in which he replaced starter Thibaut Courtois. The Ukrainian player, who made his debut in the match, spoke in an interview with Real Madrid TV about the importance of discipline, attitude and collective work to consolidate the team's performance.
The match, played at the Barcelona city stadium, was decided in the second half when Real Madrid managed to dominate the game and score the three goals. Lunin highlighted that, although at certain moments the team seemed to control the game, Barcelona maintained possession for most of the time. “Playing away is complicated, but today the three points were crucial because we all know how the situation is,” commented the goalkeeper.
The goalkeeper also recalled the decisive save on Gerard Martín's header, pointing out that Nuno Espirito Santo's phrase, “well trained”, sums up the result of his daily work. “It is the result of daily work,” he added, underlining the importance of physical and technical preparation to face high-level rivals.
Regarding collective performance, Lunin emphasized that the team must know how to “suffer, manage the game and be a team until the end” when the situation becomes complicated. "When you can dominate, you have to dominate the game and play well, and keep a clean sheet. But when the game is difficult against great rivals, like today, you have to know how to suffer, manage the game and be a team until the end," he explained.
Finally, the goalkeeper recalled that Real Madrid has a new coach who has just arrived and that the improvement work continues. "We have to continue improving because we have many things to improve. We have a coach who has just arrived and we have to improve as a team. It is a path and we have a lot of work ahead of us," he concluded, noting that the club will continue to focus on collective development and the consolidation of its position in the league.
