Inter are in a phase of reflection after the defeat in the Champions League, while they continue to dominate Serie A. The new European "ko" has sparked a debate on the team's performance at continental level, with various commentators expressing their assessments on the role of coach Cristian Chivu and the group's shortcomings.
According to Stefano Impallomeni, the data shows a discomfort in the preparation of European matches. “Maybe he burdened them too much,” he observed, highlighting that the group, although strong, is also emotional and that at a European level there is a step backwards. Impallomeni underlined the responsibility of the coach in this situation. Antonio Paganin added that the numbers are "merciless" and that the team is struggling to impose itself in the high-paced journeys typical of the Champions League. He cited the performance in Madrid as an example of a good display, but highlighted the need to change gear, especially after defeats against Bodo Glimt and Club Brugge.
Mimmo Cugini pointed to a lack of preparation in European matches, especially in reading the opponent and managing energy. He criticized the defence, in particular the absence of a physical scorer following the departures of Acerbi and De Vrij, and highlighted problems with balance and pressing, especially in the cases of Brugge and other teams. Giovanni Mussa concluded that Inter are "showing themselves to be in an involutive state" in the Champions League, with the feeling of a casual match and with deficiencies in defence, in particular with Akanji and with the management of Martinez.
In summary, Chivu's team is in a phase of analysis and correction. The club must address the European difficulties, improve the defense and find a balance between pressure and recovery, in order to return to competitiveness in the Champions League. The next step will be to review the preparation for the European matches and consolidate the defensive structure, to prevent the performance in Italy from translating into successes at continental level too.
