Manchester United have definitively closed the LisandroMartínez case, after the Argentine defender's controversial comments following the 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Manager MichaelCarrick reiterated that the player has not been left out of the group and denied reports that he would be left out of the next match against Leeds United.
After the Champions League first leg, Martínez expressed frustration with the team's performance, stating that the Red Devils "don't have the quality to compete at continental level". His words sparked a heated debate about the future of the team and its level of play. Carrick, however, chose to quickly close the matter, stressing that the mistake has been acknowledged and that the group has overcome the situation. "It's over, really. We're over it. We all understood the situation and what it meant. Lisandro obviously made his statement and recognizes that it was his mistake, and that's all," the coach said.
The coach added that Martínez's recognition of the mistake was enough to allow the club to move forward. "He realized he made a mistake and I think this is enough for us all to move forward. From our point of view, the recognition of what happened was enough: we have moved on and we are not looking back," Carrick explained. In this way the case was closed and the defender remains an integral part of the club's project.
Carrick also underlined the importance of regaining compactness and concentration in view of the next commitments. With the team preparing for new challenges, the coach expressed confidence in the group's resilience and Martínez's ability to contribute positively to the club's future. Manchester United, in fact, is now focusing on consolidating its defensive structure and preparing for the upcoming championship and Champions League matches.
