Cristiana Girelli, striker for Bay FC in the United States, expressed her opinion on Roma's defeat in the Champions League against Real Madrid, commenting on the incredible result of 3-4 at the Olimpico. According to the player, Gasperini's team made too many changes in defense, altering the arrangement of inactive balls and ruining the balance of the game. “Roma's management of the last minutes was fatal,” he added, underlining how tactical decisions had a negative impact on the final result.
The match, played at the Olimpico, was characterized by strong offensive pressure from Real Madrid, who found the way to four goals, while Roma managed to score only three. The match was decided above all in the final minutes, where Roma remained in difficulty due to defensive substitutions. Girelli highlighted that these changes compromised the fluidity of the game, especially in dead balls, where the team lost control and balance.
The result had immediate repercussions on Roma's positioning in the Champions League table. With Real Madrid's victory, the Spanish team confirmed themselves at the top of the group, while Roma found themselves in a more fragile position, with the need to recover points in the next matches to keep their hope of qualification alive. The defeat also raised questions about Gasperini's strategy, as he faced pressure from a high-level opponent in a highly prestigious competition.
Girelli also referred to the management of the last minutes of the match, calling it "fatal" for Roma. According to the player, the team was unable to recover the rhythm of the game and maintain the concentration necessary to counter Real Madrid's attack. His observation highlights the importance of more careful management of substitutions and defensive strategies at critical moments of the match.
For Roma, the match represents an opportunity for reflection and recalibration. The club will have to analyze the mistakes made, especially in terms of tactical changes, and prepare for subsequent matches in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will continue their run towards the final, with Roma trying to make up ground in both European competition and the league.
