Before Sunday's match between Inter and Fiorentina, the question of choosing the left winger was at the center of a lively debate. Coach Cristian Chivu, who for years has entrusted the role to Josep Martinez, has however shown a certain openness towards the debut of Ivan Provedel, a young defender who has sparked many requests from the fans for his inclusion. Despite the criticism he received for the goal conceded by Jiménez in the previous match against Venezia, Martinez proved to be one of the most effective players on the pitch, helping to maintain the result.
When asked which player would have the chance to enter the pitch during the derby, Chivu maintained his stance of not answering, leaving the players and fans in suspense. He said he was only sure he would be able to sit on the bench, but added that the rest of the team would be evaluated based on their performances. The coach also underlined the importance of the psychological aspect of his players, highlighting that his decision to entrust ownership to Provedel would depend on a positive performance from Martinez.
Chivu's choice seems to reflect a balanced management of both players. Although his trust in Martinez was questioned by the recent performance against Venezia, the coach never considered the Spanish player a failure. Instead, he recognized its ability to provide reliability in the field. However, the possibility of seeing Provedel on the pitch is not completely ruled out, especially if the youngster proves he can contribute significantly to the defense.
The context of the derby is further complicated by the fact that Inter are in a crucial phase of the season, with the need to consolidate their position in the standings. The final decision on who will wear the Nerazzurri shirt for the match against Fiorentina therefore remains open. The coach hinted that the final choice will depend on the performances in training and the physical form of the players.
In conclusion, while Chivu's team continues to work on a solid team strategy, the final choice between Martinez and Provedel remains uncertain. Fans will have to wait until the last moment to find out who will have the opportunity to contribute to Inter's success in the next match.
