Stefan Schwoch, former Napoli striker, expressed his opinion on LorenzoLucca's difficult period in an interview broadcast on RadioTuttoNapoli. According to the former player, the pressure that the club and the fans put on the midfielder is too high and a change of environment may be necessary to get him back into shape.
Schwoch began by recalling Napoli's recent Champions League defeat against Frosinone, underlining that errors in play, such as Politano's backward pass, weighed on the result. “Napoli must continue to do well at home and, if possible, aim for Venice to achieve a complete result,” he said. “The defeat was heavy, but it's normal for mistakes to happen in the championship.”
As for Lucca, Schwoch explained that the player was catapulted from a small club like Udinese to a club of great importance like Napoli. “Two cities, two different responsibilities: Naples is an important place where you have to win,” he observed. The midfielder has had few opportunities in the last two years and, according to the former striker, "has missed almost every opportunity". Schwoch also mentioned the €35 million fee paid for the transfer and speculated that the financial burden could affect Lucca's mental state.
Schwoch then discussed the possibility of a change of scenery in January. "Each player has his own character. It is logical that Lucca feels the pressure of the city," he said. “If the situation does not improve, the club could consider a loan to avoid a capital loss.” He recalled that the player also had little space in England and that, despite returning to Napoli, he was unable to find his form. “Maybe it's a heavy psychological moment for him,” he added.
Finally, Schwoch expressed hope that Lucca will reawaken in the coming months. “If he doesn't do well in Naples, it will be a missed opportunity,” he said. "I was never convinced by the purchase of Lucca, perhaps the club made a mistake or I myself. The price was too high for a player of his level." Lucca's future remains uncertain, but the club could make decisions in January to try to resolve the situation.
