The captain of UDLasPalmas, Kirian Rodríguez, has asked for deep reflection after the 3‑1 defeat against RCDMallorca at the Estadi SonMoix. In his statement, the Tenerife midfielder admitted that the result did not leave a good feeling and that his personal performance was far from his usual level, which, according to him, harmed the team.
During the match, Kirian advanced his usual position and stood closer to the forward, trying to comply with the scheme proposed by coach Rubén de la Barrera. The coach, however, replaced the player in the 57th minute with Elías Romero, shortly after Mallorca scored the second goal. The captain explained that the objective was to “make the game long, for them to dominate more than perhaps we like,” but that the execution did not meet expectations.
Kirian recognized that the team did not achieve the desired approach and that self-criticism is necessary. “It is time to look at ourselves, to be self-critical, and to try to add and give more, to demand ourselves, to look at each other in the face in training, to tell each other things and to push individually, to improve collectively,” said the player, underlining the importance of discipline and continuous improvement.
The result leaves LasPalmas in a difficult position in the table, and the club will have to work on cohesion and consistency to avoid repeating this type of defeat. With an eye on the upcoming matches, the team will seek to correct the errors pointed out by its captain and regain the confidence necessary to advance in the competition.
