Federico Dimarco, who has been considered a symbol of Inter for years, now finds himself at the center of a debate on the future of the club. After a 2023-24 season in which he provided just two assists and a contribution below expectations, his position on the bench came into question, especially during the derby in which he had to face a Carlos Augusto in less than optimal condition. These elements have raised doubts about whether Dimarco is still an untouchable player for the club.
The left midfielder's contract has not yet been renewed. Despite Inter's declared interest in keeping Dimarco in the team, the young man, born in 1997, is asking for a starting role and a revaluation of his salary. The parties appear to have reached a basic agreement, but some distance remains in the negotiations. Coach Baccin, however, has no urgency to close the deal and has indicated that the club can exercise an option to extend the contract until 2028, gaining time for a possible negotiation or a transfer on favorable terms.
In the meantime, Inter continues to focus on young talent. Oaktree, the company owned by Inter, has always emphasized the growth of players coming from the youth sector. Two young players in particular, Matteo Cocchi and Mattia Marello, are attracting the club's attention. Cocchi, born in 2007, is currently on loan at Padova but has already made his debut with the Nerazzurri, while Marello, born in 2008, is gaining experience with the U23s and is compared to Dimarco, who now no longer occupies the left flank in a dominant manner.
The club, in fact, seems ready to reconsider the structure of its left wing, giving space to these two emerging talents. If Dimarco were to accept a new contract, his presence could continue to contribute to the team, but otherwise Inter may have to resort to these new resources to maintain competitiveness on the pitch. In any case, the final decision on Dimarco's renewal and on the future prospects of the two young players will be taken in the next few days, with the aim of guaranteeing both the stability of the club and the growth of Inter talents.
