Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed their interest in Algerian international Ibrahim Maza, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen, to fill the absence of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The capital defender, who suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, is expected to remain out until the end of the season, which pushes the Parisian leaders to consider emergency reinforcement during the winter transfer window.
According to the X account @PSGInside_Actu, PSG has already identified Maza among its options. This lead was confirmed on Wednesday by Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reported that Parisian leaders had contacted the player's entourage to express their interest. Maza, formerly of Hertha Berlin, would then be placed on the French club's shortlist to strengthen its offensive sector.
However, Bayer Leverkusen does not wish to give up its young midfielder. Plettenberg indicates that the German club, currently fourth in the Bundesliga, is determined to keep Maza for the next transfer window. The club even offers the player a contract extension until June 2030, accompanied by a salary increase. This decision could complicate the ambitions of PSG, which seeks to secure a winter arrival.
PSG will therefore have to evaluate whether Leverkusen's proposal is strong enough to retain Maza or whether they will have to turn to other options to replace Kvaratskhelia. Negotiations remain open, and the two clubs will have to find common ground before the close of the January transfer window.
Pending a final decision, PSG continue to closely monitor Maza's situation, while Leverkusen confirm their intention to keep the talent in the team. The next few weeks will be decisive in determining whether the transfer will go through or whether the German club will keep its young attacking midfielder.
