Gattuso saw the step taken with Juventus. Now his Lazio is truly credible
Gennaro Gattuso expressed satisfaction with Lazio's performance, underlining that the step taken with Juventus must also be reproduced on the pitch. Before the match against Parma, the former coach had declared: "Desire and mentality, we must implement the step we took against Juventus tonight". The Roma team responded with a 2-1 victory against Parma, played at the Olimpico in an almost empty stadium, leading to seven victories in eight championship days.
After the defeat against Mantova, Lazio did not record any losses. The subsequent matches against Bologna, Genoa, Udinese, Venezia, Monza, Juventus and Parma consolidated the position of Zaccagni and his teammates at the top of the table, at least for one night, awaiting Inter's result against Fiorentina scheduled for tomorrow at 12.30pm. The club also only drew against Milan, without suffering any defeat, demonstrating a solidity that makes it credible on the national stage.
The overwhelming success of the Stadium against Juventus pushed Gattuso to ask for continuity and not to let his guard down. "We needed an answer. We needed continuity. We needed not to let our guard down and continue on the path we had taken", said the coach. The result against Parma, a team in difficulty and looking for points of salvation, was an unexpected result for Lazio which testifies to the work of the former coach. The team now presents itself as a "loose cannon" within a championship still without an absolute master.
Gattuso's pace and Lazio's performance indicate that the project of building a competitive team is bearing fruit. With a series of consecutive victories and a solid defense, the Roma team seems to have found the balance between aggression and discipline. The next step will be to maintain this form, especially in the face of high-level rivals and to face the challenges that the Serie A championship will bring in the next matches.
