Carlo Liedholm, son of the late coach Nils Liedholm, spoke to Radio Firenze, expressing his opinion on Fiorentina's new start to the season. In his speech he underlined that the entire atmosphere of the club and the fans had had higher expectations than the results obtained so far, and highlighted the feeling of confusion that the decision to bring back former coach Daniele Vanoli had generated.
According to Liedholm, Vanoli had been considered a positive reference point last year, and his presence is now seen as a sign of uncertainty. “I hope he can do the same again this year,” he added, making it clear that the former coach is still considered a valid resource for the team. The speech was accompanied by a comment on the work of sporting director Paratici, to whom Liedholm attributed long market experience and a fundamental role in the selection of young talents. “Young people have to be taken care of,” he said, acknowledging the difficulty of balancing immediate needs with long-term ambitions.
Liedholm also expressed his opinion on Fiorentina's future, arguing that the city deserves to participate in European competitions and that this should be the club's constant goal. He also mentioned the media's support for the Commisso family, underlining the importance of adequate media coverage for the team.
Liedholm's comment comes at a time when Fiorentina are looking to consolidate their position in Serie A, after a season of mixed results. The decision to bring Vanoli back has been met with reservations from some fans, who fear a lack of continuity. However, the former coach has proven to have a good reputation in managing Italian teams, and his experience could be crucial to the team's recovery.
With the season still underway, Fiorentina will face a series of challenges in both the league and the cup. The choice to bring back Vanoli and Paratici's role in managing the market will be key elements to monitor in the next meetings. If the team manages to overcome the initial confusion and make the most of the resources available, it could return to competing for European titles, as hoped by Liedholm and many fans.
