The Minister of Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, confirmed at Palazzo Vecchio that the redevelopment works of the Franchi stadium in Florence are proceeding according to plan, but that the final financial coverage remains to be defined. The intervention, which began in January 2024, involves the construction of the new Curva Fiesole, which should be completed within a few months, allowing the heart of typhus to return to the historic sector of the structure.
Although the PNRR funds are not sufficient to cover the entire project, Fiorentina and the Municipality of Florence continue to negotiate. According to sources, the Commisso family - owners of the club - are considering the possibility of contributing directly to the costs in exchange for a concession on the use of the stadium. The minister underlined that "there are ongoing dialogues and I am convinced that in the coming weeks everything will be even clearer, there will be even more light on a project that will be beautiful".
The Franchi is also among the stadiums that could host matches of the European Championship 2032, a competition that UEFA has awarded to Italy and Turkey. For this reason the project has attracted the attention of the Government, which intends to closely monitor the development of the country's sports infrastructure.
At the end of the "Luce!" event, Abodi insisted on the fact that the collaboration between Fiorentina and the municipal administration is essential to guarantee the realization of the project within the expected timescales. The minister expressed confidence in the ability of the parties to find a mutually beneficial agreement, in order to complete the redevelopment and make the Franchi stadium ready for future challenges.
As next season approaches, Fiorentina and the Municipality of Florence will have to define the economic details and management methods of the stadium. If the negotiations have a positive outcome, the Franchi could become a point of reference not only for the Viola fans, but also for the international events scheduled for 2032.
