MauroIcardi, the 33-year-old Argentine striker, now finds himself without a club following the end of his contract with Galatasaray. Despite the end of his Turkish experience, in which he scored 77 goals in 134 appearances, his name continues to circulate among transfer negotiations. In an interview with *La Repubblica*, Icardi admitted that he had not expected to find himself in a situation of release at the end of October, but made it clear that he did not want to accept just any solution. “I didn't think I was without a team at this point, but I don't want to choose a project that I'm not fully convinced of,” he said, explaining that this position led him to reject several proposals.
The return to Inter, the club that consecrated him at the highest levels of Serie A, continues to be a dream for the attacker. With 124 goals in 219 games for the Nerazzurri, Icardi expressed his desire to close the circle in a different way compared to 2019, when his relationship with the team ended after the loss of the captain's armband during the management of Luciano Spalletti. "It would be special. The ending was painful and I would like to be able to close the loop in a different way," he said, acknowledging that he had made mistakes in handling those situations, especially towards the end of his stay. However, he also recalled the physical difficulties that accompanied him during that period, including knee problems and infiltrations, which made the decision to let go even more painful.
Despite the strong emotional attraction towards Inter, Icardi underlined that a return would only be possible if there was a mutual will on the part of the club. “A return would only make sense with a mutual belief,” he explained, indicating that rebuilding a relationship would require a shared commitment from both parties. Currently, the attacker is looking for a project that really convinces him, but he is not willing to accept any offer that does not make him feel fully involved and motivated.
The market is still open and, while Icardi continues to search for his next home, his name remains among the main discussions among interested teams. If a return to Inter were to materialize, it would be a symbolic gesture that would bring his Italian career full circle in a more satisfying way. At the moment, however, the attacker remains waiting for an opportunity that reflects his expectations and his ambition to continue playing at a high level.
