Paris Saint‑Germain is turning to a new defense project after failing to convince Stade Rennais to sell Jérémie Jacquet. The Parisian club, already looking for reinforcements for the central hinge, now considers Ismaëlo Ganiou, 21-year-old defender from RC Lens, as a viable option to complete the Marquinhos–Willian Pacho duo.
Jacquet, who had attracted the attention of several major European clubs, was not sold to PSG. There are even rumors of interest from Liverpool, which could push the bidding to new heights. Faced with this impasse, Luis Enrique and his management team must identify talents capable of establishing themselves at the highest level in the coming seasons. Ganiou, for his part, gradually consolidated his place in the Lens professional squad after training at Gaillelette and a loan to Annecy. His athletic qualities, his aggressiveness in duels and his potential for progression make him an attractive profile for a club seeking to build its future.
The Lens defender recently extended his contract with RC Lens until 2030, which strengthens the club's negotiating position. Even if PSG showed an interest, Lens could demand substantial compensation for a player they consider to be an asset for the future. At this stage, no official offer has been confirmed, and the project remains a potential avenue rather than a concrete approach.
According to consultant Walid Acherchour, PSG should favor talents already active in Ligue 1 rather than embarking on bets on Premier League players. He emphasizes that interest in Ganiou would be logical, because the player already knows the French championship, is progressing quickly and still has significant room for development. No final decision has been made, but the prospect of Ganiou transferring to Paris could materialize if negotiations with Lens are successful.
In the meantime, PSG continues to monitor the defender market to prepare for next season. If the club manages to reach an agreement with Lens, Ganiou will join Paris and integrate into the Parisian defense, thus strengthening the stability of the central team. Otherwise, the team will have to explore other options to fill the void left by Jacquet. The next few days will be decisive in determining whether PSG will make this project a reality or will look for other solutions outside Ligue 1.
