Uli Hoeness, honorary president of Bayern Munich, has publicly expressed his frustration at the failed transfer of Florian Wirtz to the German club, in view of the expiry of the young midfielder's contract at Liverpool. In an interview with the newspaper *Welt am Sonntag*, Hoeness stated that, in his opinion, Wirtz could have expressed himself better in the Bavarian team than he has done so far on Merseyside.
In his comment, Hoeness highlighted how the player, who played an important role at Bayer Leverkusen, was "poorly inserted" into Liverpool's lineup. "I followed many of the team's matches and it is clear that they failed to insert him correctly into the game mechanisms. At Leverkusen he received every ball, while at Liverpool he became just one of many," said the former manager. The interviewee also highlighted that Wirtz has lost his status as a central point of reference in the Rossoneri team.
Despite his opinion, Hoeness ruled out that Bayern could represent a "recovery" solution for the German midfielder. "No. He has a long-term contract at Liverpool and they will try to integrate him as best as possible over there," he specified. The honorary president reiterated that, although Wirtz's recent performances have shown some signs of improvement, transfer rumors about his possible departure from Merseyside continue to circulate among insiders.
The midfielder, purchased by the Reds for 125 million euros, is still adapting to the new club. His role has been the subject of discussion, especially after Liverpool's decision to keep the player in the team, despite pressure from fans and the media. The situation is further complicated by the fact that Wirtz is still young and has a long contract in place, making it difficult for any club, including Bayern, to get a favorable deal.
Looking ahead, Wirtz's outlook remains uncertain. If Liverpool can make the most of his talent, the midfielder could consolidate himself as a key figure in the team. Conversely, if frustration grows, a new transfer opportunity could emerge, although Bayern have already stated that they cannot offer an immediate solution. In any case, the transfer market remains in turmoil, and Liverpool and Munich fans await with interest the developments that will lead to a final decision on the fate of Florian Wirtz.
