IvánCarrasco, former coach of the Barça youth team and current coach of AlIttihad, spoke with MundoDeportivo about his philosophy and his relationship with young talents such as LamineYamal, PauCubarsí and MarcBernal. At 38 years old, Carrasco presents himself as a coach who prioritizes love for the game and tactical adaptation, letting the players be the protagonists of the action.
Carrasco remembers his time at the Barça academy, where he trained two generations of players born in 2006 and 2007. Among them are LamineYamal, PauCubarsí, HéctorFort, MarcBernal, XaviEspart and others who, although not in the first team, promise to stand out in the future. For him, natural talent is the decisive factor and Yamal's ability to read the game and execute with precision stands out, qualities that Carrasco considers innate and that do not require specific teaching. “No coach has taught Lamine how to play,” he says, underlining the need to let geniuses develop without restrictions.
Regarding the management of exceptional players, Carrasco maintains that the key is to “accompany them, provide them with favorable contexts and little else.” He notes that his approach is to allow talent to explore their potential without burdening them with rigid guidelines. In addition, he comments on how he has worked with PauCubarsí, who demonstrated an advanced mentality and leadership, and with MarcBernal, who evolved from the interior to the “6” position, adapting to the needs of the squad.
The coach also reflects on the tactical evolution of football. “The initial drawing is a starting point, but during the game the spaces, intentions and roles set the dynamics,” he explains. He prefers a dominant style, with possession and attack, but recognizes the importance of flexibility and adaptation to the circumstances of the game.
Regarding his professional future, Carrasco maintains an open and flexible attitude. “I'm going to flow with life and whatever comes my way,” he says, and reveals that his desire is to reach the Premier League. However, he emphasizes that the path will depend on the opportunities and trust that the sports directors and presidents give him, as happened when he received the opportunity to lead AlIttihad.
With a vision focused on youth talent and tactical adaptation, IvánCarrasco emerges as a coach who seeks to maximize the potential of his players without imposing a rigid style, and who aspires to continue his career in high-level leagues.
