Andrea Radrizzani, the English entrepreneur who has led Leeds United in recent years, claimed his role as Sampdoria's savior during an interview with *Calcio e Finanza*. In his testimony, Radrizzani reiterates that he acted together with Matteo Manfredi to save the Ligurian club from bankruptcy, underlining the importance of the decisions made in times of crisis.
In the story, Radrizzani describes how, as he was about to leave Leeds, a business and sporting opportunity presented itself to him in which Sampdoria was involved. “I accepted for two reasons: an instinct for revenge and the memory of Gianluca Vialli,” he says. The Italian president recalled working hard to find investors and bring the club back to a more stable position. Radrizzani and Manfredi, together with potential partners such as Qatar Sports Investments, have sought to restructure the company and find new sources of financing.
The most difficult step, according to Radrizzani, was to understand the club's real financial needs. “We saved Sampdoria from bankruptcy, but it was a fight against time: the debt structure with the institutions didn't help and we didn't have a relationship with the previous owner,” he explains. Radrizzani credits Manfredi with managing the complex bureaucratic issues and negotiating with the parties involved, technically saving the club from collapse.
As for the investor Joseph Tey, Radrizzani says he met him thanks to an acquaintance in Singapore. “Tey was an investor who wanted to participate in the project,” he says. Although the club's sporting management has not yet achieved the desired results, Radrizzani acknowledges that Tey has spent considerable sums trying to fix the team. “I hope that one day there will be the possibility of giving something back, because Sampdoria is a special club and deserves the best,” he concludes.
Finally, Radrizzani expresses the hope of seeing Sampdoria return to Serie A under new entrepreneurial and managerial management. The club's future remains uncertain, but its experience shows how the commitment of investors and managers can be crucial to saving and reviving a team in difficulty.
