Alessandro Plizzari, goalkeeper born in 2000, could close a circle in his footballing journey: after a prominent season at Sudtirol, his figure is back in the spotlight at Milan, the club where he grew up in the youth team and had several stints in the first team (2016/17, 2018/19 and 2021/22) without ever making his debut. The coach and sporting director of Milan have included the young man in the list of candidates for the role of assistant to Mickaël Maignan next season, evaluating his experience and his growth profile within the club.
Sudtirol has made Plizzari a point of reference in defense: he is the least beaten goalkeeper in Serie B, with 19 saves out of 22 opponent shots, a rate of 86.4% which makes him the best in the category and surpasses the numbers of Fulignati and Vitale. His ability to participate in the construction of the game was also highlighted by the fact that no goalkeeper in the five main European leagues has achieved such a high save percentage. These results consolidated the trust of sporting director Gianluca Lovisa, who chose Plizzari after a season as a reserve at Venezia.
Despite the success, Sudtirol is already planning for next season. The club is evaluating alternatives for the goalkeeping department, including the possible revival of Alessio Cragno, who is close to signing a new deal with the club after a serious injury. This move aims to ensure adequate coverage in case of any changes in the squad.
For Plizzari, the prospect of returning to Milan represents a return to his starting point, but with a new dimension: the possibility of becoming Maignan's deputy and contributing both to the national competition and to any European campaigns. If the deal materializes, the goalkeeper could reunite his training path with a new challenge in Serie A.
The future of the German club remains uncertain: Sudtirol will have to decide whether to keep Plizzari or look for a replacement, while Milan will have to define whether the young goalkeeper will become an integral part of their defensive strategy. In any case, next season promises to be decisive for both the goalkeeper and the clubs involved.
