CharlieCresswell, who arrived at Stade Rennais at the end of the last summer transfer window, has already expressed his ambitions for the future, in particular a return to the PremierLeague. The 24-year-old English central defender left Toulouse FC for the Breton club on a loan with an obligation to purchase set at 22.5 million euros. From his first appearances, he consolidated his place in FranckHaïse's team, making a series of starts without missing a minute in the first eight Ligue1 matches.
In an interview with *Ouest-France*, Cresswell described his arrival as “a fairly smooth transition”, praising the warm welcome from club members and those around him. He stressed that his time in Brittany had helped him progress, in particular by offering him the opportunity to play in the Europa League, which he considers a crucial step for his development. “My goal is to have fun playing high-level football,” he said, adding that the club's demands — winning every weekend — were in line with his personal goals.
When asked to talk about the PremierLeague, Cresswell made no secret of his intentions. He affirmed that “my time will come”, but clarified that it would happen “step by step”. Trained at Leeds United, he only played five matches in the English championship, but he remains determined to return. His current performances in Ligue1, combined with the experience gained at Toulouse, could attract the attention of English clubs in the years to come.
For the moment, no transfer proposal is on the agenda. Stade Rennais must definitely secure the services of Cresswell at the end of the season thanks to the purchase obligation. The player, for his part, wishes to continue to evolve with the Rouge et Noir, taking advantage of the European exposure that the club offers. In short, CharlieCresswell sees his time at Rennes as a springboard towards England, while remaining focused on his current performances and on achieving his PremierLeague dream.
