The former president of FC Barcelona, Joan Gaspart, recently clarified his comments about the Argentine LeoMessi, after his words generated controversy. In an interview with the program “Solo para culés”, Gaspart explained that his statements were not intended to detract from the player or the institution, but rather to reflect the family relationship that he perceives with the footballer.
Gaspart recalled that, on a previous occasion, he had said that “Barça is above him”, a phrase that was misinterpreted by some media and fans. In the new interview, the former president admitted that he had expressed himself carelessly and that “he had not had to say it like that.” He clarified that his intention was to show the affection he feels for Messi, comparing it to that of a father with his son, but without falling into an exaltation that could lead to confusion.
The leader added that, when he apologized to his children for any criticism, he did so with his heart and with the conviction that what he said was the best for them. Similarly, Gaspart stated that his comment about Messi was motivated by his deep affection, but that "you can't love more than a son." For this reason, he recognized that the phrase had been a mixture of ideas that was interpreted incorrectly.
Regarding the future of the club, Gaspart made it clear that Barça remains the superior entity to any player, and that his comment was not intended to favor any president or any person in particular. With this clarification, the former president seeks to dispel doubts and maintain the image of respect and professionalism that characterizes the club.
