FC Barcelona has decided to suspend the use of the entertainment stand area, known as Gol 1957, at the Camp Nou stadium. The measure comes after a series of incidents that, according to the club's board, could have led to the closure of the venue. The decision generated controversy among groups of fans who felt penalized by an isolated episode in which a fan flagged down Real Madrid player, Frenkie de Jong, during the match against Alavés.
The reason for the suspension is not to punish all attendees, but to prevent a greater risk. The club has received information that the accumulation of conflictive episodes in the area of the entertainment stands had led to complaints from LaLiga. These complaints were sent to the Disciplinary Commission of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and are related to offensive chants, insults and violent behavior that were recorded in matches against Real Madrid, Getafe, Racing de Santander and Athletic de Bilbao. The repetition of these incidents generated financial fines and reputational damage for Barça, in addition to the threat of closure of the stadium.
To avoid a closure that would imply the loss of income from ticket sales and the impossibility of having the club's usual entertainment, the board opted for forceful action. The objective is to make it clear that the club is determined to eradicate these episodes. A meeting with representatives of the cheerleading ranks has been scheduled for Monday, with the intention that the groups commit to avoiding future reportable incidents. The measure seeks to reopen Gol 1957 before the next match against Aston Villa, scheduled for Tuesday.
FC Barcelona emphasizes that the suspension is a preventive measure and that the club will continue to work in collaboration with the fans to guarantee safety and the appropriate atmosphere at the Camp Nou. The board hopes that, through dialogue and collective responsibility, it will be possible to eliminate the behaviors that have put the continuity of the stadium and the reputation of the club at risk.
