Milan spent almost 165 million euros in the summer, the highest figure in SerieA, but the Rossoneri team is still in fourth place, four points from second and 12 points from six games. Despite the enormous investment, the results do not live up to expectations and the team continues to show a return that does not correspond to the expenditure incurred.
The club renewed the squad with the purchase of Gonçalo Ramos, the most expensive in the club's history, and gave Ruben Amorim an important role. However, the performance on the pitch was disappointing: Milan are still unbeaten, but have only managed four draws in six matches, including clashes with Juventus, Lazio and Sassuolo. The draw against Sassuolo, in particular, highlighted the club's difficulty in converting opportunities into victories, with Rabiot scoring but the team failing to maintain their lead.
The expenditure of 74 million for Ramos, 50 million for Diego Moreira and 30 million for Mario Gila did not translate into concrete results. Ramos hasn't found the net yet, Moreira hasn't been included in the game dynamics and Hutchinson has been almost invisible. Only Gila seems to have found his place in the team. The problem is not only the lack of goals, but also the difficulty of transforming the investment into a competitive team.
Owner Gerry Cardinale, together with the RedBird fund, has shown a willingness to invest, but the lack of a technical director has left the club in a situation of uncertainty. Cardinale has taken control of the transfer market, but will have to rely on a new coach in the coming days, with Tiago Pinto, Mehdi Benatia and Markus Krösche among the main candidates. The motto “Make Milan Great Again” is not enough to bring the club back to greatness if the results on the pitch do not improve.
In summary, Milan opened their wallet but must now ask themselves why 165 million did not lead to a high-level team. Massive spending does not automatically guarantee victory, but it makes it more difficult to accept a result below expectations. The club must therefore reconsider its strategy, both in terms of purchases and technical management, to return to competing with the other big teams in SerieA.
