Espanyol released the farewell letter from former coach Manolo González, who retired after the club's dismissal just a few days ago. In the message, the Perico coach thanked the fans, the staff and the players with whom he worked, and expressed his regret at the end of his time, although he acknowledged that “all this could have ended differently.”
Manolo González arrived at the club in 2021, first managing the reserve team and then taking the reins of the first team. During his management, the team achieved more than 100 matches, achieved promotion to the First Division and on several occasions considered the possibility of competing in European tournaments again. His stay at the club lasted just over three years, during which time he left a mark marked by the stability and progress of the squad.
In the letter, the former coach thanked the club and the people who entrusted him with the responsibility of leading the reserve team and the first team, as well as the fans for their unconditional support. Manolo also highlighted the players, from the reserve team to the first team, and the coaching staff that accompanied him, naming figures such as Gerard Garrido, Dani Parra, David Martín, David Llobet, César del Pozo, Josep Pascual and Iñigo Arteaga. Likewise, he recognized the work of physiotherapists, doctors, nutritionists and other support personnel.
The message concludes with a note of gratitude and an emotional farewell: "I will always want the best for Espanyol. It has been an honor! Thank you, parrots, forever!" Despite the sadness at the outcome, Manolo stressed that he takes with him the achievements and experiences shared with the club.
With the departure of Manolo, Espanyol faces the task of finding a new coach who can continue with the objectives of consolidation in the First Division and, potentially, seek participation in European competitions. The club and its supporters hope that the new management will be able to maintain the positive trajectory that had been built under González's leadership.
