Lazio coach, Gennaro Gattuso, commented on the 2-1 victory against Parma, underlining how the team overcame the difficulties that seemed insurmountable two months earlier. In his speech to DAZN, Gattuso explained that Lazio had foreseen that the two opponents could create problems, which is why they started the first half with caution. In the second half, the team increased the intensity, with a more incisive Sutalo, and was able to score and maintain the lead, improving their performance compared to the previous matches against Monza and Milan, where the team had dominated the first half but then disappeared.
The coach also highlighted the importance of stable training. “We play once a week, and in this period the substitutions have also given us great support,” said Gattuso. He explained that, although he tries to keep the same squad, he is happy with the performances of the new arrivals, considering them the key to success. “Modern football allows five changes and whoever comes in with the right mentality can make the difference,” he added.
Regarding the penalty contested against Frattesi, Gattuso declared that it was an important step for the team, which accepted the decision without protesting. He praised the team's calm and acknowledged that refereeing is following a trend towards clearer decisions, even if it can make mistakes. “I have to compliment the team because they didn't cause any controversy,” he said.
Gattuso then reiterated that Lazio shouldn't worry about the rankings. “We don't have to look at anything, we barely get into it with those positions,” he said. He underlined the objective of reaching 40 points in order to be able to play with more confidence, recalling that two months ago the team had lost against a Serie B team and many had put an end to their hopes. “We have to work seriously,” he concluded, indicating that the next challenge will be Sassuolo, where Lazio will try to consolidate their position in the league table.
