The seventh day of Serie B ended with results that highlighted the competitiveness of the Italian second series. The most awaited match, between Hellas Verona and Catanzaro, ended in a 2-2 draw, with goals from Candela for Verona and Mosquera and a penalty from Pecorino for Catanzaro. Other matches saw victories for Carrarese against Modena and for Virtus Entella on the Padova pitch, while Benevento and Vicenza drew 2-2, with the Venetians recovering from a double deficit. Ascoli and Empoli ended in a draw 1-1.
Carrarese achieved the victory against Modena thanks to a goal from Abiuso at the start of the first half, followed by two goals from Rubino and Belotti. Modena, which had already suffered a four-point penalty by the Sports Justice, remained in fourth place with 13 points. Padova, who suffered the defeat against Virtus Entella, finished in seventh with 7 points, while Virtus Entella placed eighth with 9 points.
The draw between Benevento and Vicenza was decided in the last minute: a goal by Caferri for Vicenza canceled out the two-point advantage that Benevento had had. Ascoli, who drew Empoli, maintained their position in fifth with 12 points. The entire round saw 12 goals, with an average of 2.4 goals per game, slightly lower than the season average.
The current ranking sees Palermo in the lead with 16 points, followed by Mantua with 14 and Modena with 13. Sudtirol is in fourth with 12 points, while Ascoli, Benevento and Avellino share fifth position with 11 points each. The teams at the top of the table are in a favorable position to qualify for the playoffs, while those at the bottom, such as Vicenza and Sampdoria, still have to make up ground.
For next week, the teams will have to focus on the next matches: Mantua against Palermo, Pisa against Cremonese, Juve Stabia against Sudtirol, Cesena against Avellino, Sampdoria against Arezzo, and Catanzaro against Juve Stabia. With the season still underway, every match will be crucial for those looking to consolidate their position in the table and for those looking to avoid relegation.
