Emiliano Viviano, former Bologna goalkeeper, expressed his opinion on the dilemma between Skorupski and Pessina during an interview with Corriere dello Sport. According to the veteran, the club has already chosen the path to follow: "Massimo is the future, Bologna has chosen and now you continue with him", declared Viviano, underlining the importance of giving continuity to the young goalkeeper.
In his opinion, Skorupski is an expert who has served the team for many years and who, although he has shown some recent difficulties, remains a point of reference. On the contrary, Pessina, who has earned the role of starter, has demonstrated talent and serenity, elements that make him the ideal choice for the future of the club. “If Pessina was given this opportunity, now we must continue with him,” he added, highlighting that the decision is not a mistake, but a necessary step for the growth of the team.
Viviano also commented on Pessina's young career, recalling that he started in Serie B at his age. “It's true that he made his debut in Serie A very early. At his age I was in Serie B, but everything is relative,” he explained. "If you have to stay supported, without playing, it's better to go and gain experience, but you can also gain experience in Bologna." The goalkeeper highlighted the difference between being a reserve and a starter, but acknowledged that Pessina has shown he is ready to handle the responsibilities.
The youngster also highlighted his technical and mental growth, citing his performance in Lecce as an example of how he has learned to handle pressure. “In Lecce, apart from the mistake, he played a grumpy but calm match, we work technically, mentally and move forward,” said Viviano, confirming his confidence in Pessina's future.
With Bologna's approval to continue with Pessina, the team is preparing to consolidate its defense in view of the next matches. The club has shown that it has a long-term vision, choosing to invest in a young goalkeeper who has already shown that he can contribute to the team's success. The future of Bologna, according to Viviano, will depend on Pessina's ability to maintain his performance and grow further as a starter.
