As the winter transfer window approaches, Olympique de Marseille is faced with widespread pessimism among its supporters regarding the possibility of welcoming a new recruit. A survey carried out on the BUT! OM highlighted this negative attitude, while the club, already subject to an austerity policy since the summer, recorded no arrivals during the last summer transfer window.
The survey, which questioned 1,000 fans, revealed that 60% of participants answered “No” to the question “Do you think a recruit will arrive at OM? ". Another 22% chose to respond ironically, “I don’t believe in Santa,” while only 18% actually believe that reinforcements will arrive in January. Thus, 82% of respondents are skeptical or negative about the arrival of a player this season, leaving only one in five participants who remain hopeful.
This reaction can be explained by the lack of reinforcements during the last summer transfer window and by the budgetary constraints which pushed the club to adopt a cost reduction strategy. Coach Bruno Genesio, who has to deal with an unreinforced squad, expressed his dissatisfaction with this situation, highlighting the difficulty of preparing a competitive team without new acquisitions. Supporters, for their part, have expressed their frustration, believing that the club is not meeting expectations for the season.
Despite this climate of doubt, OM leaders must now decide whether they will have the financial means to hire at least one player in January. The club will then have to weigh the options available, including lower-cost loan or acquisition options, in order to meet the coach's requirements and maintain the competitiveness of the team. The next few weeks will be decisive in determining whether OM will manage to thwart the pessimistic forecasts and offer Bruno Genesio the reinforcements he expects.
