Real Sociedad is preparing for the big Basque derby next Sunday with a week of rest that will allow it to recharge its batteries after a demanding schedule. The team, led by Pellegrino Matarazzo, has decided to give its players two and a half days of rest before returning to training, with the aim of disconnecting and coming back strong for the decisive event in SanMamés at 9 p.m.
The break began after the game against Levante, where the substitutes had an intense night session in the rain at the Anoeta stadium. The training was more demanding than the usual recovery races, and the stands remained empty, allowing the players to concentrate on technique and tactics without external distractions. The night session was held after the end of the match, which demonstrated the discipline of the coaching staff in keeping the team physically and mentally fit.
The team will return to the track on Wednesday at 3pm, starting the first of the four sessions planned to prepare for the derby. The following sessions will take place in the morning, at 11am, and will focus on tactics and group cohesion. Matarazzo has indicated that the objective is for the team to arrive at the game with the maximum physical and mental preparation, and to make the most of the rest time to avoid injuries and improve the physical condition of the players.
As for the squad, the coach has not included Marchal in the squad, citing a technical decision. Beitia is also not expected to participate in the next appointment. Athletic, meanwhile, will focus on the midweek League Cup tie, adding additional pressure to Real Sociedad's schedule. The Basque derby will be a decisive test for both teams, and Real Sociedad seeks to take advantage of the break to fine-tune its strategy and maximize its performance on match day.
