The relegation of Girona FC to the Second Division has forced the club to rethink its daily life and its resources, after having recently enjoyed the Champions League and the luxury trips that this implied. Now, the team must adapt to a category with smaller budgets and logistics that move away from the charter flights and individual rooms that were previously common.
Last season, Girona traveled on private flights, which allowed them to adjust schedules to the needs of the coaching staff and reduce travel time. With the arrival of the Second League, the club has had to resort to commercial flights, with less flexible itineraries and travel times that can take up much of the day. In addition, double rooms have replaced single rooms, a measure that reflects the need to control expenses in the new category.
Àlex Moreno, the team's full back, explained in an interview with Montiliving how these changes affect the players' preparation. According to him, trips that could previously be completed in a few hours now consume practically a full day, forcing training routines and physical planning to be reorganized. “Spending more time in airports and depending on business hours reduces rest and recovery time,” Moreno commented, underlining the importance of adapting to these new conditions.
Relegation has not only changed the logistics, but also the mentality of the club. Girona, which in recent years competed against great European teams, now faces rivals from the Second Division with closer and more physical matches. Despite the reduction in resources, the objective remains the same: return to the First Division as soon as possible. The players, including Stuani, David López, Bryan Gil, Francés, Van de Beek, Gazzaniga and Moreno, must respond to the pressure of competing in a more demanding environment while learning to live with budget constraints.
The club has accepted that the Champions League will become a memory of an extraordinary period, while the Second League imposes its own rules both on and off the field. The challenge now is that the new limitations do not become excuses, but rather part of the path that Girona must travel to return to the top category. With the squad prepared to adapt to the new conditions and the clear objective of promotion, the club moves forward with the conviction that the experience acquired in the Champions League will be an ally to overcome the challenges of the Second Division.
