Elche's Argentine coach, MartínAnselmi, described the goalless draw with Celta de Vigo as a positive step in his team's campaign. The match, played at the Martínez Valero last Sunday, ended 0‑0 and left Elche with a score that, according to the coach, brings them closer to victory in the upcoming matches.
Anselmi highlighted Celta's defensive solidity, which played under intense pressure, accumulating ten players near the goal. “It is not easy to generate chances or score goals when the opponent is so compact,” explained the man from Rosario. Despite this, Elche tried all possible alternatives and, according to the coach, “you have to make the right chances when you have them.” The coach highlighted that the team started the match with patience and good organization, something he considers essential against such a solid opponent.
The coach also spoke about the constant evolution of his players. “We are constantly evolving and today we have managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time this season,” he stated. Anselmi stressed that the team has not received many scoring opportunities and that the few that did come were due to mistakes by the opponent. “If you keep a clean sheet, you become strong,” he added, referring to the importance of solid defense as a foundation for success.
Regarding the management of the match, Anselmi explained that he did not feel necessary to request a hydration break, unlike what Celta had requested. “It was something that was not contemplated and we were feeling good,” he commented. In addition, the coach praised JavierMorcillo, who served as an improvised center back, highlighting that “he incorporates many things from Atleti” and contributed to the team's defensive solidity.
With the tie, Elche maintains its position in the table and seeks to consolidate its defensive performance for the next matches. Anselmi is confident that by continuing to compete with the same intensity and discipline, the team will be able to get closer and closer to victory in the coming days.
