Club Brugge achieved a thrilling 4-3 victory on the second day of the Champions League, played at the San Siro stadium against Inter. After the match, coach Ivan Leko held a press conference in which he praised his team's performance and reiterated the importance of taking risks to win.
In his interview, Leko underlined how the team tried to be dominant, but had to deal with a very strong opponent. He described Inter as an aggressive club and expressed admiration for the team, recalling having observed them for the last six years. "We tried to be dominant, but we also played against a very strong opponent. Inter played a good game, they were very aggressive. We were courageous," he said, highlighting his desire to continue playing that way with all teams.
Leko also spoke about the defensive strategy adopted, mentioning a low block. He said he was happy to be able to play that way from day one, underlining that football is beautiful because it is not enough just to have high-level players, but it is necessary to take risks and try to win as they did. “The coach must try to use the players as they can do best,” he added, reiterating his satisfaction for the team.
During the conference, Leko praised Sommer's performance, calling him one of the key players in the victory and recalling having observed him during his time at Inter. He then spoke about Tresoldi, describing him as a serious and determined young man who doesn't make mistakes in the area and who, in his opinion, is a modern attacker ready to reach the top.
Finally, Leko explained what the victory meant for Club Brugge. He said the match gave the group peace and confidence, but also acknowledged that the team still needs to improve. "This match gives you peace and confidence. Now we have three days of peace. We are not yet at last year's level, I was in love with Brugge last year. Now we need time to grow," he declared. Concluding, he expressed optimism about the future, underlining that the desire to win and play well will lead to positive long-term results.
