Roma coach Massimiliano Allegri now finds himself under the scrutiny of a FIGC disciplinary procedure. The sports prosecutor's office received from the sports judge all the details relating to the incident that took place during the match against Monza, including the comments made by Allegri before the sending off and subsequently in the corridors of Maradona and near the changing rooms. With the red card in hand, the disqualification of the technical staff is already automatic; the duration of the suspension will depend on the decision of the sports judge.
According to the information provided, if the judge decided to suspend Allegri for just one matchday, the coach would not be able to participate in the next match against Napoli, but would be able to return for the match against Monza. A two-match suspension, the most unlikely scenario, would also have excluded him from Sunday's match against Juventus. The prosecutor's office has already launched a parallel investigation into the fact that Allegri uttered, off the pitch, a sentence that sparked the fury of Roma fans: "They put the Champions League in his pocket, I paid with Milan, always them." This statement was heard by Inspector Chiné and several witnesses, and could result in a financial penalty in addition to disqualification.
The procedure is federal in nature, as the claims were made outside the pitch. Chiné, head of the prosecutor's office, stressed that the issue was considered "sensitive" and that the final sanction could include, in addition to suspension, a fine. Before the final decision, the judge may ask Allegri to better explain the meaning of the contested phrase, in order to clarify any ambiguities.
Tomorrow Allegri will have to speak at a press conference. The words he utters could influence the public perception of his position and, potentially, the FIGC's decision. The president of Roma, Gasperini, has already expressed strong disappointment at the coach's statements, calling them "unacceptable and serious". The club has therefore expressed a position of disdain and is preparing to manage the consequences of this affair.
It is currently unclear whether the disqualification will be accompanied by a fine or whether an additional penalty will be issued. The sports prosecutor's office will continue to monitor the situation and evaluate any further measures. Meanwhile, Roma will have to face their next match with a suspended coach, while Allegri awaits the FIGC's final decision.
