Cristian Chivu has made a clear choice for Inter: the top Champions League team will be the only option for the match against Brugge. After the squad change that took place in the return match against Parma, the Romanian coach decided to field the most experienced starters, demonstrating that Inter cannot afford mistakes in this crucial phase of the tournament.
The context is that of a second day of the Champions League in which the Milan team has already suffered a defeat on their debut against Real Madrid. Although the loss at the Bernabéu does not weigh too heavily, the next match against the Belgian club represents the only opportunity for Inter to recover points. A victory is the only result that allows the Nerazzurri to close the group stage in the top eight positions, thus avoiding the playoffs which led to elimination last year.
Chivu opted for a team made up of high-level players with international experience. In attack, Lautaro and Thuram made themselves available, while Calhanoglu was chosen as playmaker. The defense was completed by Bastoni and Akanji, with Bisseck closing the three-man line in front of Martinez. In the flank, Diouf took the right and Dimarco the left, while Barella and Zielinski completed the central department.
Chivu's choice, in addition to indicating the seriousness with which Inter approaches the match, is also a direct message to their opponents. The coach has shown that Inter intends to play with the highest quality and will not accept a performance that could compromise its position in the league table. With the top team, Chivu aims to secure a positive result and keep the team in a competitive position for the final stage of the tournament.
The next step for Inter is to prepare as best as possible for the match against Brugge, with the aim of obtaining the victory necessary to continue fighting for a place in the top eight. If the team manages to maintain its form and take advantage of the experience of the owners, it will be able to avoid the playoffs and continue its run in the Champions League with the hope of achieving its objectives.
