Sassuolo confirmed the solidity of its start to the season, with a victory against Juventus and a draw against Milan. Francesco Palmieri, sporting director, reiterated the main objective: salvation. "We started well, we achieved important results against high-level teams. The championship is long and difficult, but the start is positive", he declared. Palmieri underlined that the club is aware of the challenges that will arise and that its sole aim is to keep the team in Serie A, highlighting the strength of the squad and the quality of coach Alberto Aquilani.
Aquilani has been described as "predestined" for Sassuolo. Palmieri recalled knowing the coach since his days as a footballer and having followed him in the youth sector, appreciating his vision and courage. “He had an exceptional season in Catanzaro and we decided to hire him because he is a coach with clear ideas and courage,” he explained. The director also praised Aquilani's ability to bring out young players, citing examples such as Simone Cinquegrano, Lipani, Volpato and Bakola, as well as more experienced players such as Berardi and Matic.
As for the players, Palmieri highlighted the promise of Adžic and the strength of Bowie, who needs more continuity in working with the coach. He expressed confidence in emerging talent and Aquilani's ability to bring out the best in all players, young and old. On the international front, he spoke positively about Sebastiano Esposito, underlining his quality and personality.
Palmieri then addressed the issue of Thorstvedt, whose contract is about to expire. He said there are no official offers and that the company is open to finding a win-win solution. "Kristian is a great professional. If both parties are willing to sit down and come to an agreement, we are happy," he said. He also specified that, although there is news on the exchange of players, Sassuolo has no intention of selling in January, except for any redundancies which should be assessed.
Finally, Palmieri reiterated his trust in the management of the Squinzi property and in their understanding with the team. He closed the interview by recalling the importance of keeping the team stable and continuing to focus on internal talent, with the final goal of guaranteeing their continued existence in Serie A.
